Placer is 2-8 against Nevada Union since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Hillmen will look to defend their home field against the Miners at 4:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Nevada Union will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Placer extended their winning streak to four on Tuesday. The Hillmen came out on top against Roseville by a score of 13-8.
Sydney Nitta made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off eight hits. Nitta was also solid in the batter's box, getting three hits from her four at bats.
In other batting news, Placer let Paige Denniston and Livia WileyPearson run wild. Denniston went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while WileyPearson went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most hits WileyPearson has posted since back in February. Myah Denny was another key player, getting on base in two of her five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Placer kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Nevada Union). They walked away with a 13-10 victory over Del Campo on Tuesday. The win was some much needed relief for the Miners as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Jessica Rivenes was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed 6.1 innings while giving up five earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Cheyanne Painter was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Lauren Riebe, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Placer's victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for Nevada Union, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-7 and their overall record up to 3-13-1.
Placer took their win against Nevada Union in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 12-1 score. Do the Hillmen have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Miners turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
