Softball Recap: Sullivan Has No Trouble Against Shakamak

Sullivan's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 14-8 margin over the Shakamak Lakers. Considering the Golden Arrows have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Mylee Vandevender made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched. Vandevender was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Jaylynn Hobbs was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Aphtyn Earley, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

Sullivan hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in four consecutive matchups.

Sullivan's victory bumped their record up to 13-11. As for Shakamak, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-13.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sullivan will challenge Owen Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Shakamak, they will square off against North Central at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
