Softball Recap: Lodi Takes a Loss

Lodi extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 11-11. They lost 11-4 to the Lyndhurst Golden Bears. The Rams were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Golden Bears earlier this season, when they won 5-3.

Melody Zuniga spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and seven unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lodi saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ariana Bracho, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Another was Mariaela Gomez, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple and one run.

As for Lyndhurst, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-13 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games.

On Lyndhurst's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Allie Ruiz gave up three earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits.

At the plate, Olivia Syed was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Ava Woolis was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lodi will host Garfield at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Boilermakers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed nine runs per game on average), something the Rams will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Lyndhurst, they will welcome Leonia at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
