Wootton has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Damascus Hornets at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Wootton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Tuesday.
Wootton posted their biggest win yet this season on Tuesday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 65-25 victory over Watkins Mill. Given Wootton's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 70th, while Watkins Mill is ranked 264th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wootton's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Taj Smith, who scored 11 points along with three steals. Yassine Idrissa was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Damascus' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. Their tough 62-41 defeat to Northwest might stick with them for a while. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Damascus has suffered since December 8, 2023.
Wootton's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for Damascus, they have fallen quite a ways from their 25-2 record last season and are now at 4-8.
Wootton might still be hurting after the 73-53 loss they got from Damascus when the teams last played back in December of 2022. Can Wootton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
