After a string of 16 wins, the Richmond Red Devils's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 63-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of New Palestine. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Richmond in their matchups with New Palestine: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the loss, Richmond still got an impressive performance from Cedric Horton, who scored 27 points. Horton hasn't dropped below 15points for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Mason Carpenter, who scored 13 points.
It was another big night for Julius Gizzi, who dropped a double-double on 33 points and ten rebounds for New Palestine. That makes it three consecutive games in which Gizzi has scored at least a third of New Palestine's points. Moses Haynes was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with seven assists.
Richmond's defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 16-1. As for New Palestine, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Richmond will take on Centerville at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Centerville will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings (they are ranked 204th, while Richmond is ranked 18th). As for New Palestine, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Roncalli at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Roncalli focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 last Wednesday.
