3A Region 1 recap November 5, 2013
T.R. Miller added to the longest winning streak in 3A Region 1 this week by beating Sweet Water, 27-6. This was the team's 10th consecutive win.
T.R. Miller was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after besting the Bulldogs. Coach Jamie Riggs' team came in at 21 in the state poll after placing at number 29 last week.
Quenton Samuels provided a threat through the air and on the ground as W.S. Neal beat Millry.
Samuels was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 23 carries, he ran for 195 yards as the Eagles bested Sweet Water. Teammate Malcolm Hawthorne added to the ground attack by rushing for 91 yards.
T.R. Miller's Keion Smith and Wynn led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 5-10 quarterback Smith has thrown for 673 yards this season, while Wynn has 11 catches for 276 yards. Samuels from W.S. Neal leads the league in rushing with 1,881 yards.
In 148 carries Hawthorne has put up 914 yards this year.
Excel and Marengo played the most contested game in 3A Region 1 this week, with Excel eventually emerging with a 33-32 victory.
