The Kenesaw Blue Devils scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They took down Hampton 49-30. That 49-30 margin sets a new team best for Kenesaw this season.
Kenesaw's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Avery Kelley led the charge by scoring six points. Kelley set a new season high mark in blocks with two. Sophia Schukei was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with nine rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Hampton lost, one person who can't be blamed is Nevaeh Lukassen. Despite the final result, she scored 16 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Lukassen scored a full 53.3% of Hampton's points, the ninth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Gilmore, who scored four points along with 17 rebounds and three steals.
The win was the third in a row for Kenesaw, bringing their record for this year to 5-3. As for Hampton, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.
Kenesaw will finish 2023 at home by hosting Wilcox-Hildreth at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Wilcox-Hildreth's defense has only allowed 27.1 points per game this season, so Kenesaw's offense will have their work cut out for Kenesaw. Hampton will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Harvard at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Harvard is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home.
