Even though the Lexington Wildcats have not done well against the Spring Valley Vikings recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Lexington pulled ahead with a 50-49 photo finish over Spring Valley. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Lexington.
Lexington found their leader in underclassman Jaleya Lytes, who scored 15 points along with 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Sydni Anderson was another key contributor, scoring 6 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 blocks.
Despite the loss, Spring Valley still got an impressive performance from Zie'l Ratchford, who scored 18 points along with 8 rebounds and 5 steals. Ratchford is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now stole two or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Mariana Moody, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Spring Valley were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lexington only pulled down 13.
Lexington's win bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Spring Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lexington will challenge Irmo at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Irmo focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Friday. As for Spring Valley, they will head out on the road to face off against White Knoll at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
