Athens is 0-3 against Chapel Hill since September of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Athens Hornets will look to defend their home field against the Chapel Hill Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Athens will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 349th, while Chapel Hill is ranked 80th).
Last Friday, Athens came up short against Kilgore and fell 28-21.
Meanwhile, Chapel Hill can now show off five landslide victories after their most recent game on Friday. They breezed by Henderson at home to the tune of 63-24. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-3.
Rickey Stewart continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 169 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries. Stewart hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for eight straight games. Demetrius Brisbon jr was another key contributor, throwing for 136 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 passes.
Kilgore's win bumped their season record to 8-1 while Athens' defeat dropped theirs to 5-3.
Athens suffered a grim 48-28 defeat to Chapel Hill when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Athens, Deuce McGregor (who picked up 128 receiving yards and two touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
