The Vertus Warriors lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the defeat they were handed on on Thursday was a bit more commanding. They suffered a tough 81-61 loss at the hands of Aquinas Institute. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Wednesday (59), Vertus still had to take the loss.
Despite the defeat, Vertus saw an underclassman step up: Talhah Ali scored 20 points along with six assists and five steals. Dah'mere Brown was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Vertus bumped their record down to 4-9 with that loss, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Aquinas Institute, their win bumped their record up to 13-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vertus will square off against Northstar Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Northstar Christian Academy's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. Aquinas Institute won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Hornell at 6:30 p.m. on January 19th. Hornell is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
