Softball Game Preview: Central Knights vs. Narragansett Mariners

The Central Knights will head out to face off against the Narragansett Mariners at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Central will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Mt. Pleasant on Monday. The Knights were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Kilties. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by ten runs or more this season.

Central's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Yazlenne Corona, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Corona has posted since back in April.

Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .840. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Narragansett faced Tiverton in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Mariners walked away with a 9-5 victory over the Tigers. The Mariners haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Narragansett's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Central, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-6.

Central suffered a grim 19-3 defeat to Narragansett when the teams last played back in April of 2019. Can the Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
