Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Fike walked away with it. They skirted past the South Central Falcons 78-76. The Demons' victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Fike had a senior duo take command as Jamaria Freeman went 11-for-23 to rack up 37 points and seven rebounds and Jewel Brewington shot 73% from the field on her way to 24 points. Freeman's big performance that evening made it 22 games in a row in which she has scored at least 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Paige Lewis, who posted six points and five boards.
Brook Evans and Jazmine Farrington certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Evans dropped a double-double with 14 points and 26 rebounds, while Farrington went 10-for-16 en route to 22 points in addition to five boards and three steals. Evans has been hot, having posted ten or more rebounds the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kaelyn McCarter, who shot 50% from the field on her way to 11 points along with five boards and four steals.
Fike's win was their 16th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 27-0. As for South Central, they moved to 22-5 with that defeat, which also ended their 14-game winning streak.
Looking ahead, Fike is taking a road trip to face off against Terry Sanford at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Terry Sanford will roll in looking for their 13th straight victory, something Fike surely won't give up without a fight. South Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
