The Skutt Catholic SkyHawks will challenge the Gretna East Griffins at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Skutt Catholic 2.7, Gretna East 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Skutt Catholic came out on top against Mount Michael Benedictine on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run second inning. The SkyHawks were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Knights. The result was nothing new for the SkyHawks, who have now won eight contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Skutt Catholic got a great performance from Bubba Day as he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Day has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Skutt Catholic let Jace Ziola and Luke Van Dyke run wild. Ziola went 2-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Van Dyke went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Dylan Van Dyke, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Skutt Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mount Michael Benedictine only posted an OBP of .367.
Meanwhile, Gretna East faced Norris in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Griffins' pitcher stepped up to hand the Titans a 2-0 shutout. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Griffins.
Not much got past Trevor Cox, who gave up just a hit and racked up 12 Ks to keep Norris off the board. Cox is becoming a predictor of Gretna East's success: when he allows at most three hits the team is undefeated (and 6-7 when he doesn't).
On the hitting side, Nolan Green was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
Gretna East's win bumped their record up to 9-7. As for Skutt Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 14-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Skutt Catholic has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Gretna East struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Skutt Catholic beat Gretna East 3-0 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Do the SkyHawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Griffins turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
