Lee County had lost four games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 5-13 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. Everything went their way against the Southern Lee Cavaliers as they made off with a 16-10 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 18-5 back in March.
Hailey Hughes made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up three earned (and seven unearned) runs off 12 hits. Hughes was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Lee County got a massive performance out of McKayla Mcdougald, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was McKenzy Mcdougald, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
As for Southern Lee, they dropped their record down to 2-15 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home. Even if they couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Like Lee County, Southern Lee also got a great game from a two-way player: Maliyah Wilson. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 4.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. That's the fewest earned runs Wilson has allowed since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Sydney Bisson and Maggie Lucas stepped up to the plate in a big way. Bisson went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double, while Lucas went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Brooke Simmons was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
As of now, neither Lee County nor Southern Lee have any future games scheduled.
