NEPSAC Freelance recap October 22, 2013
Ryder Stone of Phillips Academy ran for the longest rushing play in NEPSAC Freelance this season against Northfield Mount Hermon last week. Stone ran for 55 yards on the play and finished with 141 on the day as his team bested the Hoggers.
Loomis Chaffee was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping Cushing Academy. Loomis Chaffee came in at 12 in the state poll after placing at number 35 last week.
Phillips Academy's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Ian Maag threw for 108 and 1 touchdown and Matt Rusk-Kosa had 85 yards receiving. On the ground Stone contributed 141 yards. Brandon Michel helped Phillips Academy's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 21 yards.
Stone was the best running back in the league this week. Teammate Jumaane Ford added to the ground attack by rushing for 103 yards.
Phillips Academy's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Big Blues feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Maag has thrown for 596 yards and 6 touchdowns this season, while Jake Howell has 14 catches for 279 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Deerfield Academy takes on Leon Modeste's team. The Big Green are currently in fourth, while the Big Blues are in second.
Deerfield Academy scaled the state rankings by moving to 31 from 135 this week, the biggest jump in NEPSAC Freelance. Michael Silipo's team climbed the ranks as a result of losing to Phillips Exeter Academy 42-14.
