Softball Game Preview: Bear River Bruins vs. Oakmont Vikings

The Bear River Bruins will face off against the Oakmont Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bear River will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

Bear River's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Mira Loma 15-0. The result was nothing new for the Bruins, who have now won four games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Taryn Cleek made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ella Northup, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Macy Martin, who scored four runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Oakmont unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of Nevada Union by a score of 11-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Vikings have suffered since April 9, 2024.

Addison Turner made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season. Maria Gonzales was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

Bear River has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Oakmont, their loss dropped their record down to 8-5.
