Mid-State recap October 1, 2013
Decatur Central scaled the state rankings by moving to 40 from 72 this week, the biggest jump in Mid-State. The Hawks climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Plainfield 48-28.
Whiteland was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after besting Martinsville. The Warriors came in at 22 in the state poll after placing at number 38 last week.
Decatur Central's dynamic duo of Tommy Stevens and Aaron Sandy proved tough for the Quakers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Stevens threw for 124 yards and Sandy had 62 yards receiving.
Jeffrey Wooten was a passing and rushing force as Whiteland topped the Artesians. Wooten's favorite target this week was Isaiah Calaway, who caught 2 passes for 30 yards.
Wooten was a force in the backfield as Darrin Fisher's team beat Martinsville.
6-foot-4 quarterback Mason Kutruff of Fred Kutruff's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,244. He has also thrown 16 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Calaway. The Whiteland star has 21 catches for 479 yards.
Wooten of the the Warriors is just 88 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Wooten has rushed for 912 yards on 108 carries so far this year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Plainfield takes on Franklin Community. At the moment, Brian Woodard's team is in second, while the Grizzly Cubs are in fourth.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Quakers take on Franklin Community. Plainfield has allowed 159 points this season, while Adam Reese's team has given up 90. The Quakers allowed 48 points last week as they lost to Justin Dixson's team.
Whiteland was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from third to first in the league. Earlier in the week, the Warriors triumphed over the Artesians 60-42.
