If the Cumberland Pirates were expecting to get some payback for the 48-26 loss against the Villa Grove/Heritage Blue Devils when they previously met last January, then they were left disappointed. Cumberland found themselves the reluctant recipients of an unfortunate 63-33 punch to the gut against Villa Grove/Heritage on Monday. The Pirates' defeat continues a disappointing trend for the team, making it five in a row.
The loss dropped the Pirates' record to 5-21. The win was the fourth in a row for Villa Grove/Heritage and raised their record to 22-5.
The Pirates will take on Cerro Gordo/Bement on Thursday. It might come down to the wire as the MaxPreps rankings project a close game. As for Villa Grove/Heritage, they will face off against Judah Christian on Tuesday. Villa Grove/Heritage won't have the home-court advantage, but they do enjoy an advantage in the MaxPreps rankings.
