Desert Mountain recap October 29, 2013
Desert scaled the state rankings by moving to 617 from 692 this week, the biggest jump in Desert Mountain. The Scorpions climbed the ranks as a result of topping Boron 62-14.
Desert added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Bobcats, 62-14. The victory was the fifth in a row for Chris Hinton's team.
Steven Miller was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Scorpions defeated Boron. He forced 1 fumble and recorded 1 fumble.
Matthew Moore threw for 210 yards and 4 touchdowns. He went 13-20 with 0 interceptions.
Moore put up the best numbers through the air as Desert bested Tim Seaman's team. Moore's favorite target this week was Chad Gleason, who caught 3 passes for 95 yards.
5-foot-9 quarterback Evan Martinez of Silver Valley is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,425. He has also thrown 17 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Gleason. The Desert star has 34 catches for 752 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Vasquez takes on Excelsior Charter. At the moment, the Mustangs are in third, while the Eagles are in first.
The Trojans took down Riverside Prep 57-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Martinez threw for 108 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 22 yards during the win.
