After flying high against the Calumet New Tech Warriors on Saturday, the Hobart Brickies came back down to earth. Hobart took a 54-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Portage on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Hobart can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 250th, while Portage is ranked 99th).
Several Brickies players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cailey Weber, who scored 14 points along with 5 rebounds. Riley Weber was another key contributor, scoring 6 points along with 12 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Hobart were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Portage only pulled down four.
Portage got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ava Melendez out in front who scored 21 points along with 5 assists and 5 rebounds. The game was Melendez's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Alante Wright, who scored 15 points.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hobart will take on Illiana Christian at 7:00 p.m. on December 6th. Illiana Christian has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Portage, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Crown Point at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Crown Point focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Tuesday.
