Monticello Empire League recap October 22, 2013
Wood added to the longest winning streak in Monticello Empire League this week by beating Napa, 31-28. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
Wood moved up to 154 from 191 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Carlos Meraz's team was able to move up by defeating the Indians 31-28.
Vacaville's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Chad Hekking threw for 176 and 3 touchdowns and Tanner Donaldson had 101 yards receiving. On the ground Damonte Moore contributed 83 yards. Jeramy Sweany helped Vacaville's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 66 yards.
The Bulldogs' dynamic duo of Hekking and Donaldson proved to be unstoppable against Armijo, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Sweany helped Vacaville's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 66 yards.
Tyler Bailey was a passing and rushing force as the Wildcats beat Napa. He completed 16 passes for 239 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 12 yards. Bailey's key target this week was Damon Lewis, who caught 4 passes for 89 yards.
He went 6-9 with 0 interceptions.
Thanks to the talents of Bailey and Lewis, Wood has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Bailey leads the league in passing with 1,188 yards, while Lewis has rushed for 818 yards this season. Troy Mott's team's Austin Aaron leads the league in receiving yards with 604 on 33 catches.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Vacaville takes on the Indians. Mike Papadopoulos' team is currently in second, while Napa is in third.
Vintage took down Rodriguez 42-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
