If the MaxPreps rankings hold true, the near future looks bright for the Gateway Legacy Christian Academy Lions. They will take on the Metro-East Lutheran Knights today. The Lions are cruising in on a three-game winning streak while Metro-East Lutheran is stumbling in off of nine consecutive losses.
You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Gateway Legacy's strategy against Nokomis on Saturday. Gateway Legacy steamrolled past Nokomis 55-24. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Gateway Legacy had established a 42-19 advantage.
Meanwhile, we expected Metro-East Lutheran to have trouble with the significantly higher-ranked Gillespie on Monday, and they did. Metro-East Lutheran suffered a grim 45-21 defeat to Gillespie. The Knights were down 33-14 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Gateway Legacy's victory brought them up to 17-9 while Metro-East Lutheran's loss pulled them down to 3-18. Gateway Legacy is 11-5 after wins this season, and Metro-East Lutheran is 2-15 after losses.
