Socorro and Tularosa are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2017, but likely not for long. The Warriors will head out to face off against the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Socorro has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with ten straight losses, while Tularosa will come in with five straight victories.
Socorro came up short against Hot Springs on Friday, falling 16-1.
Socorro saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adan Sanchez, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one run. Jacob Mendoza also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Tularosa made easy work of Hatch Valley on Friday and carried off a 23-14 win. Considering the Wildcats have won five games by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Daniel Yuzos was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, Ayden Esquero was incredible, going 4-for-5 with four stolen bases, four runs, and one double. He has become a key player for Tularosa: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Deon Bigas was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Tularosa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .685. The last time their OBP was this high was in their last eight matchups.
Tularosa's record is now 7-4. As for Socorro, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-12.
Socorro might still be hurting after the 11-4 loss they got from Tularosa when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
