Logan hasn't had much luck against Box Elder recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Logan Grizzlies will challenge the Box Elder Bees at 3:30 p.m. Logan has given up an average of 8.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Logan is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Bear River, who was ranked second at the time (Logan was ranked eighth). Logan came up short against Bear River on Tuesday, falling 11-1. The Grizzlies have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Logan saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Miley Allen, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that Allen brought in this season.
Meanwhile, Box Elder put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They never let Roy get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory. The Bees might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by ten runs or more this season.
Lucy Braegger looked comfortable as she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Lucy Griffin was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kailee Hall, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Box Elder was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .632. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .391 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Box Elder's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Logan, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.
Logan couldn't quite get it done against Box Elder when the teams last played back in March of 2024 as they fell 9-6. Can Logan avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
