Basketball Recap: Cole Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Cole waltzed into their match on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They walked away with a 41-32 victory over the Marion Bulldogs. That's more bragging rights for the Cougars, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Cole had a senior duo take command as Kendall Gonzales dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten boards and Aniya Tillman posted 11 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals. Tillman has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Avaya Brundidge, who put up seven points and nine rebounds.

Cole smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Marion lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Whitley Wiatrek, who had 12 points and five steals. That's the most steals Wiatrek has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Breelon Allen, who posted eight points and 13 rebounds.

Cole is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a massive bump to their 17-13 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points per game. As for Marion, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-18.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cole will take on Cornerstone Christian at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Cornerstone Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.6 points per game this season. As for Marion, they will square off against Randolph at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
