The Fair Grove Eagles will challenge the Diamond Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Fair Grove comes in on four and Diamond on 18.
Fair Grove is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Missouri's top teams: Clever, who was ranked 13th at the time (Fair Grove was ranked fifth). The Eagles never let the Blue Jays get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Eagles have won five matches by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Aubrie Voorhis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addison Voorhis, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Hali Stokes, who scored a run while going 2-for-5.
Fair Grove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Diamond's rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past Ash Grove 1-0. The one-run effort marked the Wildcats' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Diamond saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aubrey Ball, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Diamond pushed their record up to 11-0 with the win, which was their 25th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Fair Grove, their record is now 6-2.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Fair Grove hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .391. However, it's not like Diamond struggles in that department as they've averaged .341. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Fair Grove suffered a grim 13-2 defeat to Diamond when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
