After flying high against the Hancock County Hornets last Thursday, the Owensboro Red Devils came back down to earth. Owensboro fell 56-48 to Henderson County on Saturday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Owensboro in their matchups with Henderson County: they've now lost six in a row.
Owensboro lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Unique Carter-Swanagan, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Carter-Swanagan has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Shalyn Sprinkles, who scored 24 points.
Henderson County was led to victory by A'tylia Green and Brooklyn Gibson. Green scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, while Gibson scored 17 points along with two steals. That's the first time this season that Green pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Allyson Rideout, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Owensboro's defeat dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Henderson County, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-6.
Owensboro will head out on the road to take on Apollo at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Henderson County, they will be playing at home against Hopkinsville at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopkinsville is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
