Football Recap: Aaden Shamburger's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Spanish Fort over Daphne + How To Watch

If Spanish Fort was feeling good fresh off their 41-0 takedown of Murphy last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Toros received a blow on Friday as they fell 42-28 to the Daphne Trojans. The Toros gained 62 more yards on the day, but it was the Trojans that made the best use of them.

Spanish Fort lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Aaden Shamburger, who rushed for 152 yards and one touchdown on only ten carries, and also threw for 139 yards while completing 75% of his passes. Spanish Fort is 2-1 when Shamburger posts 80 or more rushing yards, but 1-2 otherwise. Justin 'JuJu' Bonner was another key player, rushing for 74 yards and a pair of scores on only ten carries.

Don't try to pin the team's loss on the defense: they kept the trenches locked down and allowed a mere 2.8 yards per carry. The team can thank Anderson Butterworth for the heroic effort on defense: he. Spanish Fort didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 11.1.

A big part of Daphne's win came down to the chemistry between Christian Segar and his top target CJ Gardner. Segar threw for 340 yards and five TDs while completing 77.8% of his passes while Gardner picked up 122 receiving yards and three touchdowns. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 71 yards. A healthy portion of Segar's aerial production (85 yards to be exact) also went to LaBrayln Williams.

Spanish Fort's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Daphne, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-1.

Spanish Fort and Daphne should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings. The Toros will face off against Blount at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (29 vs. 110). Meanwhile, Daphne (ranked 11th) will meet Davidson (ranked 107th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
