The Canton Chiefs came tearing into Tuesday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They escaped with a win against Novi by the margin of a single free throw, 55-54. Given Canton's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while Novi is ranked 165th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Canton was led to victory by Devon Pettus and Bradley Eziuka. Pettus scored 15 points along with six assists and six rebounds, while Eziuka scored 21 points along with two steals. Eziuka hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Caleb Williams, who scored seven points.
Novi lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Chase LeFevre, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and two steals. LeFevre is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brendan Lynch, who scored ten points.
Canton's victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Novi, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-4.
Canton will head out on the road to face off against Howell at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Novi, they will square off against Northville at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Northville has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 257 points over their last four games.
