The St. Martin Yellow Jackets will venture away from home to take on the Vancleave Bulldogs at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
St. Martin took on East Central. in a bug-themed battle on Friday. St. Martin had just enough and edged East Central out 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Yellow Jackets have posted since February 16, 2024.
Savannah Terrell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits.
At the plate, Madalynn Broussard was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Shoemaker, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Vancleave earned a 6-3 win over Biloxi on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Indians: they've now won eight in a row.
Brooklyn Howard made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Howard was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hadleigh Hall, who scored two runs while going 4-for-5. Sophia Holliman was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Vancleave was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .421. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Biloxi only posted a batting average of .120.
The win got St. Martin back to even at 1-1. As for Vancleave, the victory also got them back to even at 1-1.
St. Martin came up short against Vancleave when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 12-7. Can St. Martin avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
