The Braves will be playing in front of their home fans against the Panthers at 5:30 p.m. The timing is sure in Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Lakewood Park Christian has been banged up by ten consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
While Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over Indy Genesis HomeSchool on Saturday. Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian's victory was all the more impressive since the Indy Genesis were averaging only 3.22 runs allowed on the season.
Luke Metzler made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Metzler was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Brady Ellington and Chip Bennett did most of the damage at the plate: Ellington went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Bennett went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Ellington a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jacob Jackson, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Indy Genesis HomeSchool struck out ten times.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Lakewood Park Christian and Fort Wayne Canterbury, and Fort Wayne Canterbury kept the tradition alive. The Panthers fell 12-9 to the Cavaliers on Monday.
Ethan Young made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Lukkas Tran, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian's win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Lakewood Park Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.
Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian beat Lakewood Park Christian 6-2 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Braves repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
