North Lenoir proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 17) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Midway Raiders. The win was nothing new for the Hawks as they're now sitting on seven straight.
Wriston Honeycutt made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
Honeycutt wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mason Sasser, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Blayden Pridgen was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
North Lenoir's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Midway, their loss ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-5.
Looking ahead, North Lenoir will challenge Southwest Onslow at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Stallions will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Hawks surely won't give up without a fight. As for Midway, they will square off against Fairmont at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
