The Avon Eagles will be taking part in a tournament against the Mayfield Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Avon's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Mayfield's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Avon is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Nordonia as they made off with an 11-1 win. The Eagles not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 24th (when they won 11-0).

Maria Young made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 21 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Michaela Jankowski was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Jocelin Ochs was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double.
Avon hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nordonia struck out ten times.
Meanwhile, Mayfield waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Jaguars.
Riley Seitz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits.
On the hitting side, Brooke Tirabassi and Vivien Armstrong did most of the damage at the plate: Tirabassi went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Armstrong went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That RBI was Armstrong's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ella Mikesell, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
The win got Avon back to even at 13-13. As for Mayfield, they now have a winning record of 14-13.
Avon got the 'W' when the teams last played back in March of 2022 against Mayfield by a conclusive 6-0 score. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
