The Firth Cougars will take on the Wendell Trojans at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Firth is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.3 runs per game this season.
Wendell will be up against a hot Firth team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over North Fremont on Wednesday. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by eight runs or more this season.
Quinton Hall made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2025. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Firth let Cooper Park and Grant Vasquez run wild. Park went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Vasquez went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Wendell and Gooding meet (five straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Wednesday. The Trojans lost 22-14 to the Senators. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Monday (13), the Trojans still had to take the loss.
Deegan Prince led a balanced group of hitters, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Krew Prince was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Firth's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Wendell, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Firth has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Wendell struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
