Mt. Carmel is a perfect 6-0 against West Jefferson since October of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Cubs will head out to face off against the Buccaneers at 5:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mt. Carmel has ten straight victories, West Jefferson has nine straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
Mt. Carmel had to skate by with only a one-set margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the three-set drubbing they dealt Bonnabel on Thursday. The Cubs were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Bruins. The Cubs not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since September 23rd (when they won 3-0).
Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Mt. Carmel took every set by at least 15 points. The final score came out to 25-5, 25-3, 25-10.
Mt. Carmel found their leader in sophomore Kyleigh Smith, who had 12 digs and seven aces.
Mt. Carmel was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 17 aces. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their ace total in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, West Jefferson came up short against Chalmette on Monday, falling 3-0.
Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-13, 25-5, 25-6.
Mt. Carmel's win bumped their record up to 24-2. As for West Jefferson, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-12.
Everything went Mt. Carmel's way against West Jefferson in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as Mt. Carmel made off with a 3-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cubs since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
