Loris has gone a perfect 10-0 against Waccamaw recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Lions will look to defend their home field against the Warriors at 6:30 p.m. The timing is sure in Loris' favor as the team sits on 12 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Waccamaw has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
It was a proper cat-fight when Loris faced off against South Brunswick on Wednesday. The Lions won by a run and slipped past the Cougars 4-3. That's two games straight that the Lions have won by just one run.
Loris let Kenzie McCoy and Haley Spence run wild. McCoy went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double, while Spence went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three game, Waccamaw brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. They came out on top against Marlboro County by a score of 10-5 on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won three in a row.
Reese Rutkowski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Marlie Googer, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Addison Stewart was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four stolen bases and one RBI.
Waccamaw was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Marlboro County only posted a batting average of .267.
Loris' victory bumped their record up to 10-1. As for Waccamaw, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 6-9.
Waccamaw's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Loris has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .443. It's a different story for Waccamaw, though, as they've only averaged .349. Will they be able to contain Loris' hitters?
