On Thursday, The Liberty Patriots faced the Shadow Ridge Mustangs in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Liberty came out on top in a nail-biter against Shadow Ridge and snuck past 35-32. The win was nothing new for Liberty as they're now sitting on five straight.
Liberty got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Tyrese Smith out in front who threw for 298 yards and two touchdowns while completing 73.9% of his passes. Isaiah Lauofo was another key contributor, rushing for 75 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries.
When it comes to explaining why Shadow Ridge lost, one person who can't be blamed is Coen Coloma. Despite the final result, he rushed for 172 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.1 yards per carry. Coloma's longest rush was for an incredible 75 yards. Evan Cannon also helped out as he racked up 103 rushing yards.
Liberty's win was their eighth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 32.3 points per game. As for Shadow Ridge, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season.
Liberty will be playing at home against Silverado at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Silverado is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak. As for Shadow Ridge, they will head out on the road to face off against Arbor View at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nevada (Arbor View is ranked third, while Shadow Ridge is ranked sixth).
