There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. That and more in this week's report.
Welcome
Berlin not only got the result it was looking for last game, but the team outscored its opponent Avon in every quarter. Berlin put the hurt on Avon with a conclusive 45 - 0 victory. Berlin had two big standouts, as senior Alex Halkias rushed for 60 yards and two touchdowns, while senior Kevin Dunn threw for 174 yards and two touchdowns. The win also thrust Berlin into the power rankings, where the team now holds the 23rd spot.
Can't Touch This
Ansonia got a 49 - 7 win over Watertown last week, and a key reason for the win was junior Shykeem Harmon. Harmon earned three touchdowns and 222 yards rushing the ball. That performance landed Harmon among the top power-ranked players for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
The confrontation between Southington (5th in the power rankings) and New Britain (11th) did not disappoint. Southington narrowly escaped with a win as it sidled past New Britain 27 - 24. New Britain had come in flaunting an aggressive defense allowing an average of only 8.25 points per game, but that obviously didn't scare off Southington.
Can't Stop Won't Stop
Naugatuck managed to bank 125 more yards than its opponent Oxford last week, and going the extra distance paid off. The final score between Naugatuck and Oxford was a 49 - 7 blowout in Naugatuck's favor. 49 is shaping up to be Naugatuck's lucky number as the team posted the same point total in its win over Watertown the game before. With six consecutive wins, Naugatuck boasts the longest winning streak of any team in the rankings.
