The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Anthony Sorensen, who posted 12 points and seven rebounds. Those seven boards gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaron McAvoy, who put up seven points.
Meanwhile, Heritage Academy Gateway played a tough contest on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Premier Prep- PHHoenix, falling 63-40. The Heroes were down 52-31 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Like Heritage Academy Gateway, they lost despite seeing results from several players. Brock Akin led the charge by putting up nine points and seven rebounds. Akin has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Ethan Wright, who had nine points.
Having lost for the first time this season, East Valley Athletes for Christ fell to 4-1. As for Heritage Academy Gateway, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: East Valley Athletes for Christ has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Heritage Academy Gateway struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.8 boards.
