Carbon is a perfect 4-0 against Wasatch Academy since March of 2024 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 5:00 p.m. Carbon is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
On Tuesday, Carbon didn't have quite enough to beat North Sanpete and fell 3-2.
Carbon wouldn't go down easily and took North Sanpete into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking four-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 25-19, 22-25, 24-26, 15-11.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Grant Mathis, who had 22 assists and four digs.
Meanwhile, Wasatch Academy got the win against Utah Military Academy - Camp Williams on Tuesday by a conclusive 3-0. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Marauders recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
While Wasatch Academy won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the third set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 25-19, 25-22.
Wasatch Academy found their leader in sophomore Carlos Lopez, who had 17 digs.
Wasatch Academy's victory bumped their record up to 7-14. As for Carbon, their loss dropped their record down to 14-10.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Wednesday's contest: Carbon has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 9.2 aces per game. However, it's not like Wasatch Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.1 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Carbon took their win against Wasatch Academy when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 3-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dinos since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
