Neyra Avila and Elyse Martinez did most of the damage at the plate: Avila went a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Martinez went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That's the most hits Avila has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Cheyenne Bennett, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Narbonne was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in 14 consecutive games dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, San Pedro was not the first on the board on Wednesday, but they got there more often. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over Peninsula. The win continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won three in a row.
Caroline Baker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 14 Ks. Those 14 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, San Pedro saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jenna Ortega, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Ortega launched this season. Mia Guerrero was another, scoring a run while going 3-for-3.
Narbonne's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for San Pedro, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.
San Pedro's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Narbonne has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .563. It's a different story for San Pedro, though, as they've only averaged .324. Will they be able to contain Narbonne's hitters?
Narbonne might still be hurting after the 19-3 defeat they got from San Pedro in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Narbonne avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
