TAPPS Division II District 4 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Second Baptist moved up to 373 from 551 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in TAPPS Division II District 4.
Fort Bend Christian Academy took down Cypress Christian 49-13 last week, the largest margin of any game. Kellen Kacal threw for 172 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 118 yards in the win.
Jack Thomas was the best wideout in the league this week as the Eagles bested the Warriors. Thomas tallied five receptions for 124 yards. Cody Beeman helped Fort Bend Christian Academy's passing attack out by catching four balls for 24 yards.
Nelson Gunnell threw for 270 yards and two touchdowns. He went 21-38 with zero interceptions.
Jackson Beasley made the biggest impact on defense this week as Fort Bend Christian Academy defeated Cypress Christian. The 5-foot-11 junior grabbed two sacks.
Trent Franson was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 27 carries, he ran for 197 yards as Lutheran South bested Jacob Spenn's team. Teammate Cameron Jackson added to the ground attack by rushing for 68 yards.
Lutheran North's Gunnell and Brandon Slater have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading TAPPS Division II District 4 in both passing and receiving yards. Gunnell has thrown for 760 yards this season, while Slater, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 19 catches for 267 yards. The Pioneers' Franson leads the league in rushing yards with 446.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Eagles take on Lutheran South. Fort Bend Christian Academy is in second place, while Stephen Robbins's team is in third place.
There should be lots of points scored when the Eagles and the Pioneers face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Fort Bend Christian Academy comes in having scored 117 this season, while Lutheran South has scored 154. The Eagles scored 49 points last week as they beat the Warriors.
The Pioneers led the league in scoring this week after putting up 55 points on John Paul II. Franson threw for 156 yards and one touchdown in the win.
