Walden Grove hasn't had much luck against Sahuaro recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Walden Grove Red Wolves will welcome the Sahuaro Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Walden Grove will head into Friday's match hoping to keep the good times rolling: they had to skate by with only a three-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 35-point drubbing they dealt Pueblo on Friday. Walden Grove blew past Pueblo, posting a 78-43 win.
Walden Grove's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Caden Green led the charge by putting up 19 points. Another player making a difference was Mitchel Collins, who posted 15 points.
Meanwhile, Sahuaro strolled past Mica Mountain with points to spare on Monday, taking the game 72-55. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while the Thunderbolts are ranked 79th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Walden Grove better keep an eye on Cisco Llamas. He was instrumental in Sahuaro's win, almost dropping a double-double on 28 points and nine assists. Llamas has been hot for a while, having also posted three or more steals the last nine times he's played. Elijah Santini was another key player, going 6 of 8 on his way to 13 points.
Sahuaro pushed their record up to 18-2 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.6 points per game. As for Walden Grove, their win bumped their record up to 15-11.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Walden Grove and Sahuaro are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Walden Grove hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 67.2 points per game. However, it's not like Sahuaro struggles in that department as they've been averaging 67.2 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Walden Grove came up short against Sahuaro in their previous meeting two weeks ago, falling 66-62. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Llamas, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 steals. Now that Walden Grove knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
