The Perry Bluejays's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They took a 44-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of Saydel. Perry was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Saydel apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February.
Several Bluejays players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Taryn Nehring, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and eight steals. Those eight steals set a new season-high mark for her. Lily Meyers was another key contributor, scoring four points along with 14 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Perry were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Perry's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 1-7. As for Saydel, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
Perry will head out on the road to face off against A-D-M at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. A-D-M presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Perry in Iowa (A-D-M is ranked 128th, while Perry is ranked 315th). Saydel will be home for the holidays to greet Greene County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Greene County is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
