After flying high against the LAMP Golden Tigers on Friday, the Brewbaker Tech Rams came back down to earth. The match between Brewbaker Tech and Rutherford wasn't particularly close, with Brewbaker Tech falling 65-47. While losing is never fun, Brewbaker Tech can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 158th in Alabama, while Rutherford is ranked 18th in Florida).
Brewbaker Tech lost on Saturday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kennedi Mcghee, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jillian Baine, who scored 18 points.
Rutherford's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Shakirah Edwards led the charge by scoring 15 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. Nautica Bouie was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Brewbaker Tech has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Rutherford, their win was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1.
Brewbaker Tech will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Demopolis at 5:30 p.m. on January 9, 2024. Rutherford will take on New Site in a holiday battle at 12:30 p.m. on Monday at. New Site will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
