Basketball Recap: Nariyah Head Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Hinsdale South

Proviso East hadn't done well against Hinsdale South recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Proviso East Pirates walked away with a 51-44 victory over the Hinsdale South Hornets. This was a revenge game for the Pirates: when they faced off against the Hornets back in December of 2024, they had to take a 52-34 loss.

Proviso East's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nariyah Head led the charge by dropping a double-double on 23 points and 16 rebounds. Head continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Zulema Montoya, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards.

Proviso East was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Despite the loss, Hinsdale South still got an impressive performance from Maeve Savage, who shot 5-for-8 from long range and dropped a double-double on 26 points and 16 boards. Those 26 points gave Savage a new career-high. Hailey Goins was another key player, putting up 11 points and five rebounds.

Proviso East is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. As for Hinsdale South, they dropped their record down to 10-10 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Proviso East will welcome Leyden at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Hinsdale South, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Willowbrook at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
