Soda Springs is a perfect 4-0 against Ririe since May of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Cardinals will head out on the road to face off against the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. Soda Springs is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.7 runs per game this season.
Soda Springs easily dispatched West Side on Saturday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Cardinals fell just short of Glenns Ferry by a score of 5-3 on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Cardinals have suffered since March 25, 2024.
Abby Goodin put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Goodin was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, two RBI, and one double. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, Aiyana Davis was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Chelsey Oliver, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Ririe scored first but ultimately less than North Fremont in their matchup on Monday. They took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Huskies. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Cheznee Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and seven unearned) runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season.
On the hitting side, Haylee Smith made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Hallie Huntsman also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Ririe's record now sits at 3-5. As for Soda Springs, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-6.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Soda Springs has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .546. However, it's not like Ririe struggles in that department as they've averaged .545. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Soda Springs' way against Ririe in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Soda Springs made off with a 17-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
