On Friday, The Parkersburg South Patriots faced the Morgantown Mohigans in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Parkersburg South snuck past Morgantown with a 38-34 victory. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Gage Wright went supernova for Parkersburg South, rushing for 259 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.9 yards per carry, and also picking up 45 receiving yards. Wright was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 56 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Turner Garretson, who threw for 301 yards and two touchdowns while completing 73.9% of his passes.
Parkersburg South's victory on Friday bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Morgantown, their defeat on Friday dropped their record down to an identical 5-2.
Parkersburg South will look to defend their home field on Friday against Greenbrier East at 7:00 p.m. Greenbrier East will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps West Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 61st, while Parkersburg South is ranked tenth). As for Morgantown, they will head out on the road to face off against John Marshall at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. John Marshall is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home.
