Watervliet is 0-5 against Maple Hill since April of 2016 but things could change on Wednesday. The Cannoneers will face off against the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Tuesday, Watervliet earned a 10-6 victory over Greenville.
The team relied heavily on Lily Donnelly, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaelyn Bagnardi, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Maple Hill). They were the clear victors by a 20-1 margin over Catskill on Tuesday.
Halle Feldman and Madison Camadine made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Feldman pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Camadine struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. At bat, Feldman scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Camadine scored two runs while going 2-for-5.
In other batting news, Olivia Mueller was a standout: she scored four runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Sydney Rogers was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Maple Hill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .643. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Maple Hill's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Watervliet, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Watervliet hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .344. However, it's not like Maple Hill struggles in that department as they've averaged .356. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Watervliet might still be hurting after the 14-2 defeat they got from Maple Hill in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Cannoneers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
