Brewer had won five straight home games and Zoe Drake did her part to make it six on Wednesday. The Witches had just enough and edged out Hampden 3-2 thanks in part to Drake, who had 17 digs and five aces. Drake is crushing it when it comes to aces: she's served at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Brewer was actually outscored in aggregate across those five sets (100-97), but they still managed to win. The final score came out to 9-25, 25-16, 26-24, 22-25, 15-10.
Brewer got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Molly Lagasse out in front who had nine digs and one assist.
Brewer was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 15 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least 13 aces in five consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Cony, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over Nokomis on Tuesday. The Rams haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
One reason for the win was Cony's just kept getting better, winning each set by more points than the last. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-15, 25-14, 25-10.
Cony's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Brewer, their record is now 7-2.
Everything went Brewer's way against Cony in their previous meeting last Wednesday, as Brewer made off with a 3-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Witches since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
